Weed Is Burning: Hundreds Left Without A Home
Weed, CA that is.
As stated in my previous article about the drought devastating California, things are not going well for permanent California residents as our water supply continues to diminish and rain is still nowhere to be found.
This kind of dry heat is known and feared all over the state for its connection to wildfires.
The city of Weed recently fell victim to a devastating fire. Weed, CA is a small lumber town in Siskiyou County with a population of under 3,000. This town was affected by the most recent in a series of destructive wildfires in California.
A 350 acre fire put the town at a standstill. The town sawmill and 100 homes caught fire and were either severely damaged or completely destroyed, and approximately 2,000 people were evacuated from their homes.
The 40 mph winds helped the fire spread at an alarming rate. Accounts by people in Weed all claim that the fire came unexpectedly and quickly.
Looking at pictures of the town after the fire is devastating. The once green landscape is charred and almost unrecognizable.
With autumn and winter just around the corner, California residents are hoping for rain.
In light of the devastation in Northern California, it’s more important than ever that we think of the ways in which we use water. If it’s another dry winter, our water supplies will be in danger of being completely used up and that is certainly a frightening thought. Become aware of ways in which you save and ways in which you waste water, and take the necessary steps to be as conservative in water usage as possible.
California is our home and right now, it really needs our protection.
