12 Best Websites to Aid In Procrastination

By Marika Jayne on March 10, 2014

It’s that time again… FINALS. (And midterms for schools on the semester system!)  Assuming most of us will spend more time on the internet browsing various social media websites instead of actually studying, here are the 12 best websites to help you procrastinate with style. (Not in any order)

1. Facebook
Facebook is probably the most obvious, as it is ALWAYS open as a tab on your computer. Whether you’re chatting with people, lurking so-and-so’s pictures, or just staring mindlessly at your newsfeed, this site sucks you in for hours. (If you actually need to study, have a friend or housemate change your password until you finish your work!)

2. Buzzfeed
Lists upon lists of EVERYTHING. “27 Signs Your Best Friend Is Your Soul Mate,” “The 7 Kinds of Drunk,” “10 Best Things to Do When You’re In ______” It literally never ends. If you think about something, there is most likely a Buzzfeed article on it.

3. Tumblr
This also is a mindless website with endless scroll. Pretty pictures are always entertaining.

4. Twitter
Because what is more entertaining than Amanda Bynes’ public breakdown? Celebrity gossip is never dull. #studentproblems

5. Thought Catalog
This site is not mind-numbing and won’t kill brain cells like celebrity gossip will. These are articles and essays written by people from all over the U.S., the topics ranging from love, dating, books, movies, etc. The articles are thoughtful and enlightening, as well as entertaining. If you are looking for a more quality procrastination, but still with minimal effort, Thought Catalog would be ideal for you.

6. IWasteSoMuchTime.com
I think the URL is pretty self-explanatory.

7. REDDIT
Anything and everything being talked about on the internet is here. As the biggest internet forum, it can teach you things as well as discuss news articles, pop culture, video games, and like I said, basically everything.

8. StumbleUpon
With one click of a button, StumbleUpon takes you to any different site on the internet. It’s a hit or miss deal, so you could be incessantly clicking for hours, or you could come across something really interesting. You can also filter the categories of things that will pop up on your computer. Either way, it will keep you occupied for a very long time.

9. YouTube
Here you will find the stupidest things ever uploaded onto the internet in the form of videos. This and #10:

10. Vine
The stupidity of YouTube videos limited to 7 seconds. It’s crazy how creative some people can get in only 7 seconds…

11. Netflix
Since no student has time to actually keep up with TV shows during the week, this is the perfect place to binge watch an entire series the day before your final paper is due.

12. Pinterest
The bulletin board of your internet, where you can post clothes you like, photos, DIY projects, recipes, etc. Great if you are looking for new ideas to design your wardrobe, room, etc or are looking for a new meal to try out.
